2077.2 is a rough drawing from my sketch book, and since I had colored it I decided to include it in this collection. It's true that the character's wearing a mecha-style costume, but don't read too much into this. I had intended to draw rays of sunlight streaming through gunsmoke, and then pair this with one of the illustrations on pages 097 or 098, but it wouldn't fit in with the idea of a "requiem," so I didn't use it that way after all. Of course, I suppose I also could have gotten rid of the ruins in the background and used the image on the cover.... When I used to work exclusively in an analog environment l rarely created color roughs, except when l couldn't start the job yet for some reason but still had a clear idea of the end result I wanted. In that case I'd draw the work and color it because I knew I'd forget what I wanted it to look like unless I got it down on paper. |
